In the month of Vaisakh, the farmer sows the seedlings.

ਰੱਖਦਾ ਖਿਆਲ ਰਾਤ-ਰਾਤ ਜਿਉਂ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ

He cares for it all night as if it's his own child.

ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਵਾਈ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ਹੀ ਆ ਲਾ ਦਵੇ

If someone complains about his early planting, he ignores it.

ਸ਼ਹਿਰੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰਾ ਤੱਕ ਹੀ ਨਾ ਵਾਹ ਦਵੇ

He doesn't even look at the rush of the city.

ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਆਉਣ ਬਰਸਾਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਨੀ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ

At this time, the rains don't even arrive.

ਤਿੱਖੀ ਧੁੱਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਫਿਰੇ ਨੱਕੇ ਮੋੜਦਾ

He is out there in the scorching sun, managing the water flow.

ਬੀਜ ਕੇ ਕਮਾਦ ਸਾਰਾ ਸਾਲ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਗੋੜਦੇ

After sowing sugarcane, they spend the whole year tending to it.

ਮਿੱਲ ਬਾਹਰ ਲਾਈਨ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਪਈ ਹੈ ਰੋਡ 'ਤੇ

There's a long line of tractors outside the mill on the road.

ਗਿੱਟੇ-ਗੋਡੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਸਦਾ ਬਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਸਦਾ

They are always knee-deep in the fields.

ਪਰਚੂਨੀਆਂ ਨਾ ਆ ਕੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਮਾੜਾ ਤਾਂ ਦੱਸਦਾ

The retailers come and tell him a low price for his hard work.

ਅਸੀਂ ਜੰਮਦੇ ਹੀ ਫਸੇ ਬੋਲ ਮਹਿੰਗਾ ਥੱਕੀ ਰੋਡ ਦਾ

We were born into a trap, burdened by the heavy costs.
